I am from Greece and my mother's family is Aromounian. I would like to ask you where do you people live?? Because here in Greece only some old people speak that language now and it was a big surprise for me to find a wikipedia in that language:) Also, who invented the way Aromunian is writen? Because here it is writen using the Greek Alphabet

Hello, The Aromanian/Macedonarmãn writing system started with the Greek alphabet by the early Moscopole writers of the XVIIIth century (and before) and there is one period in history when Aromanian/Macedonarmãn language was written with the Slavic script (Manuscripts of St. Naum of Ahrida, today's FYROM). Still, today the Macedonarmãn language is written according to the place one lives in. In FYROM there is an independent way of writing in the Latin script, (with some added characters from Italian as a direct descendent from Latin) but in Romania, Bulgaria and Albania where the Romanian propaganda is more active they write in Romanian script. We hope that you'll increase your interest and learn your 'mother tongue' Eeamoscopolecrushuva 21:50, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

... While in Romania my friend, Macedoarmãn is written in the (modified) Latin alphabet that was imposed on the Rumanian language (which was using Cyrillic). This happened in the 19th cent., following nationalistic developments triggered by the "Scoala Ardeleana" and developed by many others... Yet, probably Wikipedia is not the right forum to discuss the issue. For starters, drop at the "Rumanian_minorities" newsgroup, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Rumanian_minorities/ and ask your questions or give answers (among others, a problem that discussed in the past was the Macedoarmãn/Arumunian language v. dialect issue). Alin Sebastian

Hello! I'm from Romania, and my parents are Aromanians descending from Aromanian groups from Bulgaria (my mother) and Serbia (my father). It's sad that only the old ones still speak the language now ... it's up to us to keep the language alive. Check here for some general data on Aromanians. Aromanians are spread through pretty much all the Balkan Peninsula, and in general they write using the writing system of the people that host them. Given that the Aromanian groups spread through the Balkan Peninsula do not keep close contacts with each other, this evolution is natural (no need to invoke hosting population's nationalism or propaganda to explain that). However, we have a problem - how to write our language here on Wiki. I suggest each user write the way he/she feels it's best (latin/greek/slavic and variations of them, with various kinds of accents for example). We can add almost any character here; just ask for help here if in trouble). When 2 words were meant to mean the same thing, they can be cross-linked. Regards, --Doruuu 19:15, 10 Xumedru 2008 (UTC)

Bot policy

alâxire

Hello. To facilitate steward granting of bot access, I suggest implementing the standard bot policy on this wiki. In particular, this policy allows stewards to automatically flag known interlanguage linking bots (if this page says that is acceptable), which form the vast majority of such requests. The policy also enables global bots on this wiki (if this page says that is acceptable), which are trusted bots that will be given bot access on every wiki that allows global bots.

This policy makes bot access requesting much easier for local users, operators, and stewards. To implement it we only need to create a redirect to this page from Project:Bot policy, and add a line at the top noting that it is used here. Please read the text at m:Bot policy before commenting. If you object, please say so; I hope to implement in one week if there is no objection, since it is particularly written to streamline bot requests on wikis with little or no community interested in bot access requests. Malafaya 12:22, 28 Avgustu 2008 (UTC)

By all means, go ahead. Armãn 05:47, 19 Xumedru 2008 (UTC)
Done. —Pathoschild 23:17:48, 19 Brumar 2008 (UTC)

What is Pohlania? It appears to be a huge hoax, as the articles are written rather in fake Romanian without diacritics, and placenames are rendered Romanian toponyms (Nadlac, Bucursesti), the most curious one being "Bunadimineaza". Google gives rather nothing, most of the results being the misspeling of the Polish word "pochłania" (absorbs). Remigiu 01:25, 15 Yinar 2009 (UTC)

The LocalisationUpdate extension has gone live

alâxire

The LocalisationUpdate extension is now enabled for all Wikimedia projects. From now on new localisations that become available in SVN will become available to your project within 24 hours. Your localisations get into SVN from translatewiki.net typically within a day and at worst in two days. This is a huge improvement from the old practice where the localisations became available with new software. This could take weeks, even months.

The localisations done by our community at translatewiki.net are committed to SVN typically every day. When the system messages in English are the same as the local messages, they will now be inserted in a file and are available for use in all our projects in a timely manner

What this means for you

alâxire

Local messages have an impact on the performance of our system. It is best when messages are as much as possible part of the system messages. In order to remove unnecessary duplication, all the messages that have a local localisation and are exactly the same as the system message will be removed. What we ask you to do is to compare and proof read the messages in translatewiki.net and the local messages. You can then either remove local messages when the translatewiki.net message is to be preferred or, you can update the message at translatewiki.net.

Messages that are specific to your project will have to stay as they are. You do want to check if the format and the variables of the message are still the same.

Why localise at translatewiki.net

alâxire

When you localise at translatewiki.net, your messages will be used in all Wikimedia projects and eventually in all MediaWiki based projects. This is how we provide the standard support for your language. When messages change, at translatewiki.net you will be prompted to revisit your translations. Localising is more efficient because we have innovated the process to make you more efficient; there is text explaining about messages and we have applied AJAX technology to reduce the number of clicks you have to make.

How can we improve the usability for your language

alâxire

We expect that with the implementation of LocalisationUpdate the usability of MediaWiki for your language will improve. We are now ready to look at other aspects of usability for your language as well. There are two questions we would like you to answer: Are there issues with the new functionality of the Usability Initiative Does MediaWiki support your language properly

The best way to answer the first question is to visit the translatewiki.net. Change the language to your language, select the “vector” skin and add the advanced tool bar in in the preferences and check out the new functionality. And make some changes in your user page. When there is a need to improve on the localisation, please make the necessary changess . It should update your localisation straight away. We would like you to report each issue individually at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Usability_issues.

When there are problems with the support of MediaWiki for your language, we really want to know about this. It is best to report each issue separately. In this way there will be no large mass of issues to resolve but we can address each issue on its own. Consider issues with the display of characters, the presentation of your script, the position of the side bar, the combination of text with other languages, scripts. It is best to try this in an environment like the prototype wiki as it provides you with a clean, basic and up to date environment. The prototype wiki is available for five languages but you can select any of them, change the preferences to your language and test out MediaWiki for your language.

We would like you to report each issue individually at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Language_issues. The issues you raise will all be assessed. It is important to keep each issue separate, because this will make it easier to understand the issues and find solutions.

I want to request admin status

alâxire

Hello. I've requested admin status at this Wikipedia at Meta but have been told to first make a request here. This Wikipedia needs an administrator, some pages that should not exist have been tagged for months without anyone doing anything [1]. Also there's simply no local administrators here other than this user [2] who has never edited it [3].

I'd like to volunteer for this role. I don't have many edits but I have been editing sporadically since 2020. I have tagged some pages for deletion and carried out some merges. I am an English Wikipedia user with over 55,000 edits and 8 years of editing, and I have never been blocked. Most of my activity there as of today is writing about the Aromanians. I am Romanian and speak Romanian, I don't speak Aromanian but I understand it enough so as to perform maintenance tasks such as deleting improper pages. I want to volunteer for this role because I am highly interested in the Aromanians and I find it sad to see this Wikipedia have such low activity. As I do not speak the language, this is basically the most I can do for helping. Super Dromaeosaurus (discuție) 19 Mai 2024 15:48 (UTC)[răspunde]
